Transport Program

The Pet Overpopulation Problem

Each year, six to eight million pets enter shelters and three to four million of those are euthanized simply because they do not have a home. Incredibly, some regions of the country still have euthanasia rates as high as 85 percent.

Our Solution

We save dogs and puppies from Georgia shelters and transport them to foster home or shelter organizations in New York.  Adoption rates are much higher in this area of the United States.  A typical puppy will take 7-10 days to find a home and adults generally find a home in 2-3 weeks.

Puppies are quarantined for 2-3 weeks before transport.  They are appropriately vaccinated, dewormed and otherwise cared for during their stay with us. All puppies are spay/neutered prior to transport.

All adults are spay/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed & are either heartworm negative or have been treated for heartworms prior to transport.

We send 12-15 puppies on our once a month transports. Approximately 5-10 adult dogs are selected as well. They either come from high kill shelters or the rural, overcrowded shelter we work with in Washington, GA.

Transport Costs

The average cost of one trip to the northeast is $1200-1500.  We can save 15-25 lives per trip.  In 2008, we made once monthly trips and saved 250 lives!  We hope to increase that number in 2009.  We now have a 'bus ticket' program which allows you to sponsor a dog and help him/her find a new loving home instead of facing euthanasia here in GeorgiaBus tickets only cost $50 per dog.  Make a shelter dog's day and help him/her get on the road to a new life.
